Many punters don’t have time to place bets in the week due to work commitments. Bearing this in mind we have outlined some profitable methods and Micro betting systems which are ideal for the weekend punter because they can be can be followed quickly and easily.
There can be as many as seven or even eight race meetings taking place on Saturday. The racing is contested by better class animals than in the week because the prize money on offer is much bigger, ultimately this means the horses are much more likely to run true to form. You can save time by betting on horses whose trainer`s have a decent strike rate at a particular course. Doing this will mean you`ll be focusing on one or two race cards maximum.
Micro system 1: Bet on Trainer month trends
Trainers are creatures of habit and they plan their racing season like a military campaign. Read our essential guide to making a profit from backing and Laying trainer trends
But even better still use this FREE guide to who’s hot and who’s cold
for example… MALCOM JEFFERSON (+£400.42)
It all seems to come together for the Jefferson yard at this time of year, as he can boast a 20.59% strike rate, sending out 102 horses with 21 of them returning to the winners enclosure. Last season he had 5 winners during this month all at 6/1 or shorter prices but he still has a good 40.42 Profit to SP which shows that the North Yorkshire trainer thrives during the colder season. His biggest success during the month came in 2011 when According to Pete was a 33/1 success on Boxing Day, making all to win a Grade 3 in great style.
Micro system 2: Lay maiden horses stepping into handicaps for the first time
In flat racing maiden horses stepping up into handicap company for the first time are generally vulnerable, especially those stepping up in trip for the first time. These horses are definitely worth laying if you can obtain low odds, i.e. 3.5 and below.

Bet on Proven performers
Identify course and distance winners. Assess if those horses are racing within class and what their recent form looks like. Look for trainer`s who have a good record in that type of race.
If there are several course and distance winners in the same race they are likely to take each other on. If this is the case consider spreading your stake across these horses in a Dutch bet.

Each way betting
Because Saturday racing is more competitive than in the week it’s definitely worth backing fancied runners each way, especially in handicap races. Besides you may fancy more than one runner in a race, if you back them each way there’s a good chance you’ll at least get your stake returned.
Use a betting bank
Anyone who takes their betting seriously should use a betting bank, however weekend punters are more likely bet whatever spare money is there in their wallet. This approach is flawed on so many levels and should be avoided at all costs.
Before you commence betting, set out exactly how much you can afford to lose and stick to it no matter what the outcome. Generally we advise you to keep stakes small and manageable.
Use the betting exchanges
If you do bet every weekend, and haven’t already done so, we strongly advise you to set up an online betting account with the world’s number one betting exchange “Betfair”
Unlike traditional online bookmakers Betfair gives you the flexibility to place back, lay and trade bets. If you back a horse to win and its odds shorten significantly then you have the option to trade a no lose position by laying the same horse at lower odds. Alternatively, if the favourite looks weak you can simply lay it.
Register with Betfair now and get:
- Better value odds
- A FREE £25 bet and follow up payments
- More ways to bet

Automate your betting
If you’re still finding it difficult to fit betting in between the weekend shopping and family commitments then it’s definitely worth looking at automating your betting with one of our recommended betting bots.
These fantastic software applications will save masses of time by automating your betting activities. Some bots can even automate your Horse racing and Grey hound systems, then place bets for you on the betting exchanges (Betfair and Betdaq) while your at work, or away from your computer.
