Part 5: National Hunt Statistics
It is said that National Hunt favourites win marginally more than flat favourites. Many national hunt races are contested by horses with vast differences in ability. The betting forecast is a pretty accurate barometer at gauging each horse’s chances. It really is wise to consider this before backing a real outsider, especially when the top two horses in a race take up as much as 70% of the book.
Course characteristics
National Hunt course`s are extremely varied in configuration, this means its rare to find a horse totally suited to more than a few courses. This factor often produces course specialists, therefore when profiling horses, especially in handicaps it can pay dividends to eliminate those not suited to the course and focus solely on the specialists and proven animals.
And finally…
The other great thing about the National Hunt season is there is less racing to look at, averaging around two to three meetings a day Monday to Friday, between 4 – 6 meetings on a Saturday, which is a very competitive racing day ideal for layers that use a proven plan.
