Form reading with Sportinglife


The following tutorial has been created to help you assess the race form elements of the Sportinglife.com The great thing is, all these online form assesment tools are totaly FREE!

1: This part of the race card page is straight forward enough, e.g – Date, Course, Time, Race conditions, Number of runners and the  Going.

2: Relates to specific course information such as:

  • 5 Star ratings > are applied by Sportinglife,  based around each horses ability
  • Officail Ratings > are those compiled by the BHB (British horse racing board)
  • Top Jockeys > Statistics for each Jockey at the course over the last 5 years, including, wins, runs, placed and overall strike rate perecentages (restricted to this race only)
  • Top Trainers > Statistics for each Trainer at the course over the last 5 years, including, wins, runs, placed and overall strike rateperecentages (restricted to this race only)
  • Headto Head > Simple software feature which allows you to assess and compare if any of the runners have raced against each other before. Thus making it possible to spot any potential form reversals etc.
  • History> Information about past runnings of the re. Certain races take place each year at the same course, so it always worth checking the stats to see if there are any strong bias`s for favourites, or trainers etc.
  • Course info >Clicking on this brings up specific course information (SEE below)

  • Future Fixtures> Up and coming race meetings at the course in the current Year.
  • Audio Preview> The feature allows you to listen to the Verdict shown as number 5 in ( screenshot 1: above)
  • Live commentary > Listen to live radio commentary
  • Latest odds> Clicking here takes you to oddschecker.com live comparison site where you can compare the odds on offer from 17 of the biggest bookies and the two main betting exchanges.

3: Ascending list of runners in the race, including the following information for each:

  • Saddlecloth number
  • Form > Up to last 6 races positions
  • Horses age
  • Weight
  • Trainer
  • Jockey
  • OR Officail rating
  • NAGME > Click to recieve reminders and alerts that horses you have selected to follow are set to make an appearance on the racecourse.
  • NAPS> Considered best bet of the day from various Tipsters, who supply tips to the national press challenge through the Racingpost.com
  • BET> Live prices, which are links to place bets on selected runners.

4: Details of any previous winner of the race

5: The betting forecast and the Sportinglifes Verdict/opinion of the main contenders and how the race could potentialy be run.

6: Formwatch > In running form comments, including odds and weight carried in  each horse most recent race.

Clicking on horse name brings up this screen form here you can mine various data about a horse, such as:

7: Age, Sex and Breeding

8: Trainer owner

9: Vital stats > Details about the horses strike rate and if a profit or loss would have been achieved by backing it.

10: All runs, Wins, Wins & Places> these radio buttons allow you to sort the order in which the horses previous race positions are displayed, usefull for assessing exposed runners with plenty of form.

11: Highlight runs after 60 day break> Highlights runs with 60 days or more break.

12: Trainer Vital stats, including:

  • Last 14 day strike rate + P&L
  • Seasonal stats + P&L

13: Again, there are radio buttons which allow you to sort the order in which the trainers wins and places are displayed.
