5 winning favs for a loss of -£2.87

TRAINERS
Paul Nicholls has had 4 winners from 10 runners with another 3 placed

Nicky Henderson has had 2 winners from 6 runners with another 1 placed

Jonjo O’Neill has had 2 winners from 2 runners

AGE
13/13 aged 4 to 7

12/13 had run within the last 45 days

OTHER FACTORS
13/13 had won over hurdles before

10/13 had 100% win and place % strike rate over hurdles

SUMMARY

A pretty good trends race, which has in recent years been dominated by Nicholls & Henderson who have won the last 5 between them.  We should be looking for a horse aged 4 to 7, that finished in the first 2 last time out, that also preferably ran within the last 45 days, is in the 1st two in the betting and has a 100% Win & Place strike rate over hurdles.

WELSH NATIONAL

ODDS

Various, though only 1/15 priced at bigger than 20/1
FAVOURITES

Just the 1 winning favourite for a loss of -£11.67

TRAINERS

Paul Nicholls likes to send runners here but has won the race twice from 26 runners (7 more placed)

Nigel Twiston-Davies does 2 with 18 runners producing 2 winners and another 3 placed

Jonjo O’Neill is a bit more selective with 2 winners from 6 runners

AGE

15/15 aged 6 to 9

WEIGHT/OR

15/15 carried 11st 6lbs or less, in fact the top 2 in the weights have NO wins from 31 runners

LAST RACE
7 winners last raced at Chepstow from 37 runners with another 6 placed

Take note of horses that ran over hurdles last time to keep their chase mark down as 4 winners have come from 27 runners (another 4 placed) compared to 11/224 that started in a chase last time

15/15 raced within the last 60 days

15/15 finished in the first 6

10/15 finished in the first 2

OTHER FACTORS
15/15 finished in the first 5 in at least 1 of their last 3 runs

13/15 finished in the first 2 in at least 1 of their last 3 runs

SUMMARY

Not too bad for a wide open handicap with the favourites not having a great record we should be looking at a horse that is aged 6 to 9, carrying less than 11st 6lbs, that is race fit with a run within the last 60 days and finished in the first 6 though the first 2 is preferable.  If the horse last raced at Chepstow even better.
